Cartoons on the Bay is an international festival held in Italy dedicated to television, film and cross-media animation, founded in 1995 by Gianpaolo Sodano, who was its first president. Its purpose is to promote the activity of authors and producers from all over the world, offering an opportunity to meet buyers, distributors and television managers. It is organized by the RAI publisher, in collaboration with Rai Fiction and with the contribution of Rai Cinema.
In its various sections, animation projects of any nationality are invited to participate, meeting the definition of the Association Internationale du Film d’Animation, and, since 2009, not only realized for television: series, series pilots, specials and short films but also interactive animations and cross-media projects. The expected competitive categories are:
tween generation series
young adults series
TV series pilots
social and educational programs
For each, an international jury identifies the best works that are awarded with the Pulcinella Award. Since 2009 Cartoons on the Bay has established the Arlecchino Award for animated works from books and video games.They are then awarded the Grand Prix for the Person of the Year, the Series of the Year and the European Program of the Year.
“One Thousand & One Tales Animations” series directed by Reyhane Kavosh and produced by Ali Raeis was nominated among the five finalists in the category TV Series Preschool.
